It's easy to get to know the other travelers in our small, friendly, gay and lesbian groups.

An active, outdoors vacation with Alyson Adventures.

Join us for an intimate glimpse of the ancient villages, farms and oases that line the banks of one of the world's greatest rivers. We'll see Egypt from a perspective that few tourists ever get to see.

Nile by Bike: Cycling the Nile River in Egypt.

Riding between the desert and the river

This tour starts and ends in Luxor, touring as far as Aswan, then returning to Luxor. Our lodging for a week will be on a small Nile River ship. During each day we will explore the landscape by bike and visit a few of the many antiquities along the riverbanks, then return to our ship for most meals.

During the week we will visit the famous towns of Edfu, Aswan, Kom Ombo, and Esna, as well as smaller villages that aren't even on the map. We'll also have a chance for an optional visit to the great seated statues of Abu Simbel..

Highlights:

  • Watch the riverbanks float by from the deck of our intimate Nile ship.
  • Enjoy six days of riding along the banks of the Nile and through villages that rarely see visits from tourists.
  • Explore the ancient temples of Upper Egypt including those of Queen Hatshepsut, Karnak and Luxor.
  • Cross the Nile at Aswan, then bike and ride a camel through the barren landscape to visit an abandoned monastery high up in the golden desert hills.
  • Join an optional half-day excursion to see the 4 great seated figures of Abu Simbel.
  • Hone your bargaining skills in the bazaars of Aswan and Luxor.
  • On our pre-tour Cairo and Pyramids Extension, stand in awe as you observe the grandeur of the three great pyramids and the Sphinx, and gaze at items from King Tut's tomb at the Egyptian Museum.

Is it the right vacation for you? This moderately easy ride offers a variety of cycling days (ranging from 10-40 miles) over mostly flat terrain. During each ride we will see some of Egypt's antiquities and we will return to our small Nile ship after each ride.
